I was first introduced to the Situational Leadership® training model in the early 1980's while working for Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph. I was a wide eyed 23 year old, who had recently been promoted to first level management with Southern Bell. I had the world by the tail, but honestly didn’t know how I was to influence and manage my new team. I went through Dr. Hersey’s Situational Leadership® course and it was magic for me. The concepts were very helpful and honestly did provide me with an effective approach to use in managing my new team. Situational Leadership® was something that really helped me transcend the gap between my employees and myself. I carried those concepts with me for the remainder of my 31 year career.
Who would have guessed that after 31 years of relying upon the Situational Leadership® concepts, I would finally get to the chance to meet the man who had helped to craft my management style so many years ago? I actually met Dr. Paul Hersey when I attended a Situational Leadership® training course in Escondido, California several months ago. Professor Hersey or "Doc" as his team affectionately refers to him was very warm and friendly and showed a genuine interest in hearing about me and how I came to know about CLS and the concepts of the Situational Leadership® model. I found "Doc" to be an exceptionally intelligent man, with a genuine interest in helping people to be better leaders. Needless to say, I was totally in awe! It is truly mind boggling to think about how many people's lives Dr. Hersey has touched over his years as a Professor, leadership innovator, author and advisor.

The reason I was in Escondido, California going through the Situational Leadership® training class, was because Dr. Paul Hersey's firm had contracted with my new firm, "Flyline Search Marketing," to help create an Internet Marketing strategy for CLS. Life delivers some funny twists doesn't it? Here I am standing in front of my long time management mentor, knowing that he helped me to be a successful manager for more than 30 years. Now I stand positioned to return the favor to him by helping his firm continue to grow and touch even more lives. Definitely a Kodak moment for me!!
