I wanted to share one of my special secret places in New Mexico with you. New Mexico is known as "The Land of Enchantment". The beautiful stream you are watching is the Chama River, which is located in the Northern New Mexico mountains. This incredibly captivating river is one great example of how the state earned the nickname, The Land of Enchantment. The Chama flows south from the mountains, down through Abquiui, Espanola and feeds into the Rio Grande. Over the past 30 years, few places on this earth have escaped the impact of growth, development and change. Chama, Tierra Amarilla and the northern New Mexico mountain region are truly one of those few special places that have side stepped development. The funny thing about this area is that most of the local residents actually prefer the rugged and difficult to the new and modern.

Growing up in Albuquerque, I was introduced to the mountains at a very early age. My parents, Roy and Patricia Lein, took us camping almost every weekend during the summer. Can't tell you how many nights we slept out by the Chama river and listened to the sound of the water flowing by and to the wonderful sounds of nature. Pretty cool stuff for a kid, but I highly recommend it to you adults too! One of my best friends in the world is David Cooper. Coop has lived on the ranch we camped at his entire life. You know the man seems truly happy and content. Can't imagine what would happen if change and growth disrupted his world. Hope it never does!

I feel so blessed to have enjoyed this beautiful place for so many years.
